Interior design does not need to be tied to location.
I offer remote interior design services across Finland and, when needed, also internationally.
Good design is not created simply by being physically in the same space. It is created through
accurate information, a clear process, and good collaboration.
Remote interior design is an excellent option when you want a professional design plan, but
do not need in-person visits at every stage. It is a flexible, efficient, and often more cost-effective
way to move forward.
What does remote interior design mean in practice?
Remote interior design means that the design work is carried out without an in-person visit to the property.
The design is based on the information provided by the client, such as:
- floor plans
- measurements
- photographs and videos
- wishes, needs, and budget
- information about how the space is used, the natural light, and current challenges
Based on this material, I create the design with the same professional approach as I do for local projects.
The only difference is that I get to know the space through documents, images, and discussion, rather
than first visiting it in person.
Remote design is not a lightweight moodboard service where a few pretty images are thrown together and
the rest is left to chance. When done properly, it is real design work that solves functionality, visual balance,
furniture placement, materials, lighting, and the overall concept of the space.
Who is remote interior design suitable for?
Remote interior design is a good fit for you if:
- you want to save time and travel costs
- you need a clear design plan but do not require ongoing site visits
- you are able to measure the space carefully
- you can provide photos and information about the property
- you want to move forward flexibly at your own pace
It works especially well for:
- one-room redesigns
- material and colour planning
- furniture layout and furnishing plans
- lighting concepts
- kitchens, hallways, living rooms, and bedrooms
- situations where you want a clear direction and professional guidance before making purchases
What are the benefits of remote interior design?
Let’s put it plainly: when done properly, remote interior design saves time, nerves, and often money too.
Many people assume that remote design is somehow a lesser version of in-person design. It is not. It is simply
a different way of working, and for many clients it is actually the easiest and smartest way to get professional help.
1. Design is not limited by location
You do not need to look for a designer only in your local area. You can choose the right expertise for you and your project.
2. Scheduling is more flexible
Remote meetings, messages, and reviewing materials are often easier to fit into everyday life than arranging site visits.
This is especially helpful for busy families, entrepreneurs, and people living in the middle of a renovation.
3. You get a clear plan that makes decisions easier
When the overall concept has been thought through in advance, you do not have to make every decision alone.
Colours, materials, furniture, and the visual direction stay under control. Your home becomes a functional whole
instead of a collection of random choices.
4. You avoid expensive mistakes
This is where money often leaks if there is no proper plan. Furniture in the wrong size, colours that do not work,
rugs that are too small, disconnected lighting choices, rushed purchases. A good remote design process helps
prevent these issues.
5. You get an external professional perspective
When you live in your own home every day, it is easy to become blind to its possibilities and challenges.
A professional quickly sees proportions, rhythm, functionality, and potential pitfalls. That outside
perspective is often exactly what is missing.
What does remote interior design require from the client?
Remote design works well only when the starting information is accurate.
Because I am not physically at the site, the client plays a key role in making sure I receive the correct information.
In practice, this means providing, as accurately as possible:
- room measurements
- a floor plan, if available
- photographs from different angles
- video material when needed
- information about doors, windows, radiators, mouldings, and built-in furniture
- details about other fixed structures
- your wishes, needs, budget, and style preferences
If the measurements are incorrect, the design can also go in the wrong direction. Not because the design itself is poor,
but because the end result depends on the accuracy of the information provided.
In simple terms: I am responsible for the design, but the client is responsible for making sure the information given
to me is correct.
How does the remote interior design process work?
The process varies depending on the project, but typically it moves forward like this:
1. Initial consultation
We go through what you want from the space, what is not working at the moment, and what you hope to achieve.
At the same time, we define the scope, schedule, and budget of the project.
2. Collection of project information
The client provides measurements, photographs, a possible floor plan, and any other relevant details. This stage
forms the foundation of the whole project. The more accurate the information, the smoother the process.
3. Design work
I create the agreed design concept for the space. Depending on the project, this may include:
- space planning
- furniture layout
- material and colour proposals
- lighting ideas
- built-in furniture solutions
- shopping suggestions
- 2D or 3D visuals, depending on the project scope
4. Presentation of the design
We review the proposal together remotely. At this stage, we make sure the overall design feels right and supports
everyday life, the budget, and your goals.
5. Revisions if needed
Any agreed adjustments and final refinements are made.
6. Implementation
The client carries out the plan independently or with their own contractors. At this stage, the design works as a clear
roadmap that keeps the project from drifting in ten different directions.
When is remote interior design not the best option?
Although remote design works very well in many projects, it is not always the best or only option.
For example, in large-scale renovations, complicated structural changes, or situations where the starting information
cannot be provided accurately, an in-person visit may be the better way to begin.
Sometimes a hybrid model works best: part of the work is done remotely, and part on site if needed. The most important
thing is not to force everything into one model, but to choose the smartest way to move forward for each project.
Remote interior design for international projects
If your property is located abroad, I can still help remotely with areas such as:
- creating the overall design concept
- defining the atmosphere, colours, and material direction
- furniture layout and visual rhythm
- lighting ideas
- building a cohesive visual identity for the space
When it comes to implementation details, product availability, and local suppliers, the client’s own role or a local partner
usually becomes more important.
Why do many clients choose remote interior design?
Because it is practical, efficient, and modern.
There is no need to pay for unnecessary travel if the same result can be achieved more intelligently through a clear
remote process. When the information is accurate and the workflow is structured, remote interior design is a highly
effective way to work.
At its best, the client gets:
- professional insight
- a clear direction
- well-considered choices
- easier decision-making
- a more functional and personal end result
And that is exactly what good design should do.
